Approximately 75% of the 222 passengers on the train and their families were affected by the crash with 25 people losing their lives, 135 passengers were injured. There were 81 passengers that were immediately transported to area hospitals, with critical injuries. The fear was with this amount of loss of life and the amount of critical injuries resulting in wrongful death, the death toll could rise.
Investigations are continuing to go on by state, and federal authorities, and while there is no definite cause determined yet, there have been several admissions of fault. Investigators have not commented on anything definite and have stated the theories that have been discussed have been done to soon in the investigation. These state and federal investigators will not give a time when their investigation will be complete and they will have a cause for the Chatsworth Metrolink commuter 111 crash, as of the writing of the article.
